Random Name Picker

We have a winner!

Saved wheels

Saved in this browser only.

The wheel travels inside the link after #, which is never sent to our server.

Paste your list, one name per line. Picked names are removed automatically, so everyone gets a turn.

How to randomly select names from a list

    1. Copy the names from a spreadsheet column, a document or an email and paste them into the box. Each line becomes one name.
    2. Press Remove duplicates if the list may contain someone twice.
    3. Spin. The picked name leaves the wheel automatically on this page, so the next spin picks only from those who have not had a turn.
    4. When everyone has been picked, open your saved list again or paste it back in.

    For teachers

Save one wheel per class (Save, then name it, for example “Year 7 Maths”) and open it in each lesson. Full screen and sound work well on a projector, and the Results tab shows who has already answered. Nothing is uploaded: the lists stay in the browser on your computer.

    Fair picking without repeats

With automatic removal on, every spin chooses evenly among the names still on the wheel. Over a full round each person is picked exactly once, in a random order. Turn removal off in Options if you want names to be able to come up again.

    Questions

Is there a random wheel that removes names after each spin?

Yes, this one. On this page automatic removal is on by default; you can switch it in Options.

How do I randomly select names from a list?

Paste the list one name per line and spin. Use Remove duplicates first if anyone may appear twice.

Can you give me 20 random names?

Tap “Sample class list (20 names)” to load twenty example first names: Aiden, Bella, Carlos, Daisy, Ethan, Fatima, Gabriel, Hana, Isaac, Julia, Kai, Layla, Mason, Nora, Omar, Priya, Quinn, Rosa, Sam and Theo.

Can I save my class lists?

Yes. Press Save and give the list a name. Saved wheels stay in this browser and open with one click.

How do I pick students randomly?

Load the class list on this page and spin once per question. Picked students leave the wheel, so everyone gets a turn before anyone is asked twice, and the Results tab shows who has answered.

How do I randomly pick names in Excel without duplicates?

In Excel 365, with the names in A2:A31, =TAKE(SORTBY(A2:A31,RANDARRAY(ROWS(A2:A31))),5) returns five different names. It recalculates on every change, so copy the result and paste it as values.

What makes a good random name picker?

Three things: it can leave out names that were already picked, it keeps your lists, and it shows how it picks. This one removes picked names, saves lists in your browser and publishes a 1,000,000-spin fairness test.

Is there a free random name picker app?

This page works as one. In your browser menu choose Install app or Add to Home Screen; it then opens like an app and works without internet.
